I love my deck, especially this time of year when the surrounding gardens are beginning to bloom, the leaves are greening and the birds are chirping. Red Hot Blues @ Dominion Hotel

I’ve not yet checked out the music scene at the Dominion Hotel in Minden but it’s on my list of summer fun time activities. I’m very carefully planning to be sure and partake of the many fun things that somehow I’ve missed out on thus far whilst staying on Maple Lake as I’ll be there both this spring and summer. Being born in late August had its benefits for my youngest son in that by the following summer Chris was old enough to enjoy Maple Lake. Here he sits with his dad in the late evening twilight, all ready for bed.

This year–2012–is his 20th year. He’s putting himself through school and won’t be spending time on Maple Lake this summer, maybe not for some summers to come. Regardless, when he’s ready to come back it will be awaiting.

Rain reflections on Maple Lake - 1997

If I recall we waited a while for it not to be raining to go for a boat ride that summer but it always seemed to be…so we went anyway.

Through Chris spent quite a bit of time on Maple Lake he never really took to it the way I had. For one, he’s not all that thrilled with swimming, which the lake is perfect for.

All extended or immediate McCrackan family at Maple Lake Ontario Canada - 1956. My parents are at extreme right.

The 1956 McCrackan family compound on Maple Lake. Our (current) cottage is not shown and don’t look for ‘these’ cottages as they don’t, technically, exist. In 1956 at McCrackan’s cottages there was no lake-bank to speak of and the trees looked really different than today–way more sparse.

My mom took this Maple Lake summer photo of me, my dad in the middle, and my bro at right. in about 1969. I don’t think it was posed but I like the composition, if not the pukey look on my face.
