14-Day Weather Forecast Haliburton Highlands November 17 – 30

I feel like I could copy & paste the weather forecast every other week as it seems to me to be remarkably similar–a couple of weeks with normal rainfall & a couple more with fairly dry conditions  My spouse the gardener says that this weather pattern gives things ‘a chance to dry out’ but I’m not entirely sure the climatologists would agree. Having the high and low temperatures be almost indistinguishable seems an odd circumstance indeed. This weekend looks quite nice so be sure to peruse the many goings-on in the Haliburton Highlands area and get out and enjoy the season!

As usual, there is a host of activities in the Highlands from which to pick including charity fundraisers and functions, a film festival, world-class entertainment, myriad arts and/or crafts endeavors, Christmas goodies and much more. Check ‘em out!

I’ve got to be straight with y’all: I am not at all a winter person but I do like to get out and then quickly get IN places and stay for awhile. Fortunately, the Haliburton Highlands offers many, many places to go and things to see, some for charitable cause, some for profit, some for free–and best of all for your enjoyment and/or to benefit your community! Just because the weather is a-changing (as I’ll address in a moment) does not mean you have to stay home getting cabin fever. Bundle up and get going. You won’t want to miss a thing!

As we move into mid-late Autumn in the Haliburton Highlands area, the weather pattern of above-normal nighttime temperatures continues with only about 2 days of very slightly below normal temps overnight. It looks like there will only be a chance of showers 2 out of the 14 days which is well below normal (and hopefully, won’t continue). Conversely, daytime temperatures look to reach normal only 2 days out of the 14 with the rest below normal, significantly so on some days.

So we are here on Maple Lake and everything is going well.
We had a break in the drought with a decent thunderstorm–not long in duration but it has perked things up.
I’m glad no one has any fires though because you can see how tough the summer of 2012 drought has been on this part of the Algonquin Highlands of Ontario.

We (spouse & I) are hitting the major projects–the siding of the cottage (done! by hired guns–now lots of touching up and some minor repairs –fingers crossed–that spouse is doing). Also to-do: replacing most likely, the water pump–for a number of reasons including the one we are using is someone else’s spare (!) and it’s getting ever-more ‘hinky’, plus the building of the swim raft (I hope) as early into our just-under-2 weeks here as we can.

There are definitely some really cool events that I hope to be able to hit up in a few days. Meanwhile, get used to snaps of Maple Lake.
Today we saw the beginning of Festival of the August Moon on the Gull River in Minden–the hanging of the lanterns–I wanted to see the nighttime lighting/setting of them down the river but the aforementioned projects and making time both for a Kawartha Dairy stop and a really nice swim sort of ate up the rest of the time today.

Tried out the new telescope tonight and the full moon nearly blinded me. I’m stupid that way. Really great potential to see great constellations though–in maybe a week–and every other pretty night for the rest of the time I come up here.
Definite plans for the “Farmer’s Market” in Carnarvon and Haliburton Midnight Madness on Friday afternoon and evening, respectively.

It’s a really big week coming up in the Highlands but the fun does not stop when it does. Take some time to peruse the dozens of activities in the Highlands by clicking the thumbnails above, as many great times are to be had that continue well beyond Canada Day.

We are still not sure when exactly we are going to be at Maple Lake as our siding people have the materials on order and we need to sync things up with them before departing. We have our fingers crossed but if push comes to shove I’ll end up hanging around the cottage as long as I need to.

I know for sure one activity that I don’t want to miss because 1. I’m a night owl and it runs in the afternoon, 2. it’s a farmer’s market so I can peruse great, fresh local produce EDIT/ and meat pies, cheeses and baked goods!–vast quantities of locally-cultivated EVERYTHING.  And there are local community/charity booths set up, too! I am so there! Oh and 3, it’s local to me! Here’s the flyer:

With so many outdoor activities available let’s check the weather, shall we? I’m posting the two-week forecast every week to be a bit more precise–though heck, it’s the weather in cottage country–it will be what it will be. EDIT/ It looks fantastic!!!

For me, going to the Minden Truck Pull and the Buttertart contest in Haliburton would be a great start to what looks to be a super weekend.
