I’ve got to be straight with y’all: I am not at all a winter person but I do like to get out and then quickly get IN places and stay for awhile. Fortunately, the Haliburton Highlands offers many, many places to go and things to see, some for charitable cause, some for profit, some for free–and best of all for your enjoyment and/or to benefit your community! Just because the weather is a-changing (as I’ll address in a moment) does not mean you have to stay home getting cabin fever. Bundle up and get going. You won’t want to miss a thing!

14-Day Weather Outlook – Nov 3 through Nov 16
As we move into mid-late Autumn in the Haliburton Highlands area, the weather pattern of above-normal nighttime temperatures continues with only about 2 days of very slightly below normal temps overnight. It looks like there will only be a chance of showers 2 out of the 14 days which is well below normal (and hopefully, won’t continue). Conversely, daytime temperatures look to reach normal only 2 days out of the 14 with the rest below normal, significantly so on some days.

Some highlights in the upcoming week include a demonstration by the Duck Lake Sauerkraut Crew on how to make “French Choucroute, Polish Kiszona Kapusta” or as you may call it, “Sauerkraut,” at the Haliburton County Farmers Market on September 28, 2012, a CAT-astrophe at the Rail’s End Gallery, the Minden Hills Museum Annual Heritage Dinner (check out the menu below), a display of ‘the breathtaking fall beauty of the Haliburton Highlands’ at the Haliburton County Studio, ‘Plant Me, Instead,’ an opportunity to partake in a hands-on learning experience in which you’ll learn about invasive plant species and alternate native plants to use with the proper planting techniques, the Tuf Rack Fall Classic, the 10th Annual Women’s Day Together, and a Christmas Craft Sale in Minden.
Talk about diversity in options for your enjoyment and enlightenment! To get the full details, read on. If you need to read the full-size announcement for each ‘happening’ in the Haliburton Highlands this week, simply click on the thumbnails at the bottom of this post. Have a great week!

Dusk Dances – Last Night is Sunday the 22nd!
Hey there!
I hope you all are managing to stay cool and are bracing yourself for a really hot-weather day on Monday. No better time to be in the Highlands relaxing by or in one of the many beautiful, bountiful lakes after you have headed out to enjoy the many fun and charity-oriented activities that the Highlands offer. On the menu in the coming days and weeks are dusk dances, yoga classes, dog pedicures for charity, biking, music, summer zumba, opera lessons, a charity golf classic and more!
As usual, I’m including this week’s 14-day weather outlook. We’ve reached a point now that part of our vacation time is in the forecast and it really does not look bad. I’m glad of the warmer temperatures and I don’t mind the rain because we all know–it’s needed! The warmth and wet makes the bugs happy, too as you can see in the bug forecast. Sometimes, Deet (bug repellant) is a cottager’s best friend!
