Places For People – Latest Affordable Housing Community Project:

On March 21, non-profit affordable housing corporation Places for People opened the doors to a fifth unit intended for a family in need. The group spent three months refurbishing a home at 5 Newcastle Street for a local family with two kids.

Maple Lake Ontario – Closing Up The Cottage for 2013 – Maple Lake Garden (PHOTOS) #maplelake # #ontario #garden

The best summer of my life on Maple Lake Ontario

The Black-eyed Susans which we'd planted in late June had blossomed when we returned in late August.

The Black-eyed Susans which we’d planted in late June had blossomed when we returned in late August.

We’ve been home from Maple Lake Ontario (at our winter home, as I now call it) in Chicago for exactly a week today and I’m just transitioning into life here. It’s not a bad life–not at all–but it is not life on Maple Lake–not remotely.

I’ve pulled the last of the Maple Lake photos off my stand-alone camera and my phone camera so I’ll post some here now and spread the rest over the next nine months or so.

Our last five days at the cottage were far from perfect weather-wise.  It was seasonably cold, wet and windy. Nothing surprising though, and it didn’t really phase me after having a whole 6 weeks, including the entire month of July, at the Maple Lake. I felt a bit badly for Roger, though. We’ll plan his vacation days better next year, hopefully four straight weeks. We’d brought both dogs with us to Maple Lake so that ensured an inevitable degree of outside time, regardless of weather conditions.

We finished some inside the cottage mini-projects. Had a fine meal at Hali’s Bistro in Haliburton via an enthusiastic recommendation by my brother, who with his wife had stayed for a full week at the cottage prior to our arrival. Since we were closing for the year we began packing up 2 days before we were to leave. When you have to be inside, it is almost better if the weather is not-so-good outside (almost).

Maple Lake Ontario Sunset - Sept 4 2013

Maple Lake Ontario Sunset – Sept 4 2013

The weather here on Maple Lake has been iffy for the past three days but late today, the sun came out and we all rejoiced, including our dogs, who otherwise were content pretty much with just sleeping.  The cherry on top was the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen in the 7 weeks total that I’ve spent here this summer.

Now that Labour Day has officially passed, Maple Lake is super-quiet.  I like it that way though I admit that I get overly- carried away   because I have so much fun and I can be pretty noisy at times.

One thing in particular that I enjoyed about trolling about on Maple Lake is the diversity in lakefronts and the buildings on them. There are examples of structures less than 5-10 years old right through those that look at least 75 years old. I end up getting all kinds of inspiration for what I’d like to do with our lakefront in the future, ideas both big and small.

View from the cottage window – Maple Lake, Ontario, Canada

In a matter of hours we’ll be departing for our final trip to Maple Lake Ontario this year. It is our third and we are both looking forward to it and a bit wistful that the time has flown by so fast that we must bid goodbye until next year. I took  the shot above with my smartphone and I must say it’s the only photo so far that I’ve been able to snap that is worthy of sharing! I did make it my wallpaper so I can show off tho’. Hee.

Have a super Labour Day weekend! If you are on Maple Lake, be sure to stop by and say hello–we are at  the bottom of the hill to the left, off of Frank’s Lane. Just look for the best view of the lake. 🙂
