Since I never quite got to bed last night (long story) I was able to grab some awesome morning shots of southeastern Ontario at 9 a.m. Eastern (8 a.m. Central). And, since I’m just getting the weather-cast done now, I’ve grabbed a couple more shots of sunsets in beautiful southeastern Ontario, Canada. Something for everyone.

I hear that Ontarians have had record rainfall in the month of May. I sympathize as though you might not expect it, weather here in the Chicago area is not too different. We’ve had the record rainy May, the zig-zagging temperatures, mostly on the cold side–but then excruciatingly hot and humid for a day or so as well. Just nutty.

So, what do we dare expect for this week? You may be pleasantly surprised!

First, in a big change, there will be almost no rainfall in southeastern Ontario for the next week. That is very welcome coming on the heels of such a wet May. Temperatures in general will be rather moderate with daytime highs about 21 or 22 °C during the day. Here are the details:

Haliburton Highlands Weekend Weather June 3 - 4 2011

Expect variable cloudiness overnight on Friday with temperatures dipping down to 50°F. You could get up to 0.1 inches of rain from Friday evening through Saturday evening.

You’ll wake on Saturday to isolated showers and a temperature of 57°F. Isolated showers continue through Saturday afternoon with a high of 70°F. Saturday evening will be cloudy with showers and a temperature of 66°F. Saturday’s overnight low will be 50°F.

Sunday will have cloudy periods, a high of 73°F and an overnight low of 54°F. There is no precipitation forecast for Sunday.

Monday will again feature cloudy periods but with a high of 66°F, will be somewhat cooler. The overnight low of 54°F on Monday however, will mimic Sunday’s low. You could get close to 0.1 inch of rain.

Tuesday, June 7, expect cloudy periods, a high of 68°F and an overnight low of  54°F. There is no precipitation forecast for Tuesday.

Wednesday, June 8, isolated showers are again in the forecast. The high is expected to be 72°F and the overnight low, 50°F. You may get close to 0.1 inch of precipitation accumulation.

Thursday, June 9, will be a mainly sunny day with a high expected to be 72°F and the overnight low, 57°F. There is no precipitation forecast for Thursday.

Judging from the photos it itsrainy in many area of southern Ontario Saturday, early afternoon. By Saturday evening however it should become mainly cloudy. There is expected to be 0.1 inch of rain from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. The high temperature Saturday will be 64°F and the overnight low, 55°F.

Haliburton Highlands Long Term Weather

Sunday, look for a cloudy day with showers. The high temperature is expected to be 66°F and the overnight low 55°F.  There may be up to 0.1 inch of rain accumulation.

Monday, expect variable clouds, a pleasant high of 75°F and a repeat of Monday’s overnight low of 55°F.  Again, there may be up to 0.1 inch of rain accumulation.

Tuesday, there’ll be a chance of  thundershowers with the high temperature soaring to 81°F, though it should feel like 95°F(!) The overnight low will be 63°F and there is again a chance of up to 0.1 inch of rain accumulation.

Wednesday will be sunny. The high will be a comfortable 73°F and the low overnight, 57°F. There is no rain in the forecast.

Thursday, June 2, expect variable cloudiness and a high of 63°F. The overnight low will drop to 50°F. There is no precipitation in the forecast.

Friday will be a sunny day with a mild temperature of 64°F.  The low overnight will be a chilly 48°F and there is no rain in the forecast.

Welcome to the beginning of what promises to be a fantastic weekend!

August 1st is a civic holiday in Canada and based on  the crowds at the Haliburton Midnight Madness celebration in downtown Haliburton (photos to come) folks in cottage country are enjoying the extra day off.

So let’s get on with it, shall we?

Saturday morning will be sunny and 57 degrees F. Saturday will continue mainly sunny and 73 degrees F.  Saturday evening brings cloudy periods and a temperature of 68 degrees F. Overnight on Saturday there will be variable cloudiness and a low of54 degrees F.

Long Term Forecast

On Sunday look for variable cloudiness and a high of 73 degrees F. The overnight low will be 54 degrees F.  No rain is expected.

Civic Holiday Monday will again bring variable clouds but higher temperatures in the daytime of 79 degrees F. Monday’s overnight low will be 63 degrees F. There may be up to 0.1 inches of rain.

Thundershowers are coming in on Tuesday with a daytime high of 81 degrees F. Tuesday’s overnight low will be 66 degrees F. There may be up to 0.4 inches of precipitation accumulation.

Wednesday the sun returns though with some variable clouds as well. High temperatures should be about 79 degrees F. The low overnight will be 64 degrees F.

Thursday, August 5 will be a sunny day with a high temperature of 77 degrees F –which will feel like 88 degrees. The overnight low on Thursday will be 64 degrees F.

Friday brings yet more sun with a high of 75 degrees F and an overnight low of 63 degrees F. No rain is in the forecast from Wednesday through Friday.

Haliburton Highlands Short Term Weather

Summer has certainly reached the Haliburton Highlands and on the whole, the weather for the next 2 weeks should be NORMAL. Isn’t that fantastic?!

I had high hopes after the less-than-great summers of 2008-09 and Mother Nature seems to have come through for us.

The remainder of this weekend calls for light rain and a high temperature of 68°F. Light rain continues overnight Sunday with low temperatures a mild 63°F. There could be 0.6 inches of rain in this 24-hour period.

Monday morning is more of the same with a prediction of cloudy with showers and the day starting at about 64°F.  By Monday afternoon  the weather shifts to cloudy with sunny breaks and a high temperature of 75°F.

Monday evening calls for variable cloudiness and a high of 75°F. Overnight Monday, expect cloudy periods which change to mostly clear as the temperature drops to 57°F.

Thursday will be a sunny day with a high temperature of 79°F–which will feel like 91°F with an overnight low of 64°F. Again, there is no rain in the forecast.

Friday, July 23 bring clouds and showers, a high of 79°F, which will feel like 93°F and a muggy overnight low of 66°F. More than 10mm of rain is possible so it looks like some significant storms are rolling in.

Saturday, there will be a chance of thunderstorms, a high of 75°F and another muggy overnight low of 68°F. There may be 0.4 inches of the wet stuff.

Finally, on Sunday expect a sunny day, a pleasant high of 75°F and an overnight low  of 66°F. There is no rain in the forecast.

Welcome t o your weekend! Have a peek at the lovely shot of Green Lake near West Guilford, which was snapped on July 3, 2010. The skies in the Haliburton Highlands are some of the most beautiful I’ve *seen in eastern north America and this shot exemplifies that gorgeously. (*Seen in person, not in webshots (lol).)

For the remainder of today–Saturday expect the sun to be prominent but the temperatures to be moderate at about 75°F. You’ll have a clear overnight with a low temperature of 57°F. Sunday morning you’ll arise to another sunny day at 68°F. As your Sunday progresses the temperature will climb to 82°F. The overnight low will be about 66°F and will remain clear.

There is no rain in the forecast for this 24-hour period.

Monday brings scattered showers in the afternoon with a high of 79°F  and an overnight low of 64°F. The total precipitation should be about one-half inch.

July 12- 16, 2010 Weather Haliburton Highlands

Tuesday will be cloudy with showers. The high temperature will be about 75°F and the low overnight 64°F. Total precipitation should be about one-third of an inch.

Expect scattered showers in the afternoon on Wednesday July 14, with a high of 81°F and an overnight low of 64°F. There should be 0.1 inch precipitation accumulation.

Thursday will be mainly sunny with a high temp of 82 °F and an overnight low of 66°F. Like the day before, there should be 0.1 inch precipitation accumulation.

Friday will bring isolated showers and a high of 82°f. It will feel like 97°F though (with the day before almost at hot-feeling at a 95-degree humidex) so remember to rehydrate. The overnight low temp for Friday will be 66°F. There will be a trace of precipitation in total.

Saturday will be sunny with a beautiful high of 82°F and an overnight low of 66°F.there is no precipitation forecast for Saturday, July 17.

Weekend Weather May 29 - 30. 2010

Welcome to your weekend! Apologies *again* for being tardy. We really need to get past this May /June insanity phase with its graduations, birthdays, greeting card holidays, a national holiday… ’nuff said.

Your weekend in the Haliburton Highlands looks perfectly gorgeous with this evening — Saturday being sunny with a temperature of 70°F. Overnight will be comfortable with a low of 54°F.

Sunday morning, you’ll be greeted with sun and a temperature of 64°F with temperatures steadily climbing until by afternoon it should be 79°F. Simply a beautiful day on Sunday with a high of 79°F. It will stay clear throughout Sunday evening with some cloudy periods overnight and a comfortable low temp of 59°F.

There is no precipitation expected from Saturday evening through Monday morning.

Weather May 31 -June 5

There is a chance of thundershowers on Monday, May 31. The high temperature will be 26°C but it will feel like 30°C (!) Overnight, expect temperatures to drop to a seasonal 15°C. There could be 2-4mm of rain accumulation.

Tuesday, you should look for isolated showers, a high temperature of 24°C and a low overnight once again of 15°C. There should be less than 1mm of rain accumulated.

Wednesday, the Haliburton area will have have cloudy periods and a cooler high of 22°C. Overnight gets a bit nippy with a low of 11°C. No rain, though.

Thursday, June 3 expect variable cloudiness and a high of 21°C. The overnight low dips way down to 9°C. Expect 2-4mm of precipitation.

Friday will be a day of isolated showers especially in the afternoon, with a high of 22°C. Overnight temperatures drop to 13°C and there may be up to 1-3mm rain accumulation.

Light rain is expected on Saturday, June 5. The high during the daylight hours is expected to be 22°C.  The overnight low should be about 13°C.

Close to 10mm rain accumulation is expected.

Haliburton Concert Series
May 1 2010

Lucille Chung

May 1st is the first concert for the year, and features pianist Lucille Chung. Lucille was born in Montreal and is now based in New York. She has performed all over the world with more than 50 orchestras. The concert is at 7:30p.m. The three-concert classical music series is sold only as a subscription. The total cost for three concerts is $50 for adults and $25 for students. Four thousand-two hundred trees will be planted throughout Haliburton County through the partnership of Patient News Publishing with Haliburton Highlands Stewardship Council through the Council’s Tree Planting Program. Patient News Publishing…is committed to environmental stewardship in all facets of their business operations. In addition to their current use of 100% FSC certified paper, Patient News Publishing has made a further commitment to planting trees with HHSC. The Haliburton Highlands Stewardship Council, a community organization comprised of generous local volunteers, dedicate themselves throughout the year to promote and support responsible stewardship of natural resources in Haliburton County, and deliver programs such as the Tree Planting Program.

The Tree Planting Program is designed for Haliburton landowners who are interested in reforesting their properties, restoring or enhancing biodiversity, preventing shoreline erosion, or simply creating wildlife habitat in their woodlots and shorelines with trees native to Haliburton’s seed zone. People use to say when we’d arrive at Maple Lake that we’d “brought the good weather” with us. Well, we have not had great weather here in the Chicago area, so I’m afraid this time that we are going to need to turn the tables and say that “It’s nice to have some pleasant weather, now that we are here at the Lake.” However your forecast for the immediate 2 weeks calls for temperatures that only reach “normal “on two days and the rest of the time are below normal. That is not thrilling, guys. Now understand, I’d rather be there than here in the summer, regardless of the weather but it would be nice if you could muster up a really nice week while we are there. No pressure though, OK? Thanks.
