What’s in Store Outdoors in The Haliburton Highlands This Weekend

Looking at the 14-day weather outlook for the Haliburton Highlands, one can see the continuation of what can only be described as a winter-long pattern. Thee low temperatures have been above average almost all the time, with the high temperatures remaining more or less normal for most of the winter.

In the Haliburton Highlands, there should be a nice covering of fresh snow on both Saturday and Sunday but the above-normal temperatures could make things a bit messy at times. Regardless, get out there and enjoy the Highlands’ winter.

Canadian-Pond-Hockey-Championship – Haliburton Highlands

Canadian Pond Hockey Championship,  The Peppermill Anniversary Party

No matter what the weather there is always something fun to do in the Haliburton Highlands. My pick from the many great choices is the Canadian Pond Hockey Championship which is happening NOW!
My dad, who is now in his 80′s, has entertained us with stories of his younger days when he played pond hockey. It sounds like a massively fun time to attend the The Canadian National Pond Hockey Championship, an event which celebrates the grass roots of hockey. Over 230 teams (1300 players) from all over Canada will descend on the Haliburton Highlands for this two weekend event. Canada’s National Game was conceived over a century ago on frozen ponds, rivers and lakes across the country… Pond Hockey requires speed, strategy and teamwork and of course the courage to battle Mother Nature…As hosts, the Haliburton Highlands will make this a truly community event benefiting various area businesses and generate thousands of dollars for various local community groups. Join us for this celebration of grass roots hockey at its finest.

Haliburton Highlands’ Weather 14- Day Forecast – Jan 26 – Feb 8

The Haliburton Highlands’ 14- Day Weather Forecast for  Jan 26  through Feb 8 2013 pretty much speaks for itself. High temperature for much of this period will be on the low side–yet not extraordinarily so, as we saw this past week (thank goodness!). Overnight temperatures however, will continue in the pattern of being notably above normal some of the time, and normal-to-above most of the rest of the time. January apparently, shall go out like a lion with a snap of cold–but the extra cold is gone within a day or so–to the point of  low temperatures reaching above normal  high temperature numbers (see graph).
