Haliburton Highlands Long Term Weather - January 19, 2012
I just took a peek at the extended forecast and as previously reported, it looks like the winter of 2011-12 is going to be remembered for it’s above-seasonal temperatures mixed with about average precipitation. The worst part I think most folks would agree, is the melting of the snow on days like predicted on this coming Monday with a high of 36F degrees. When Monday’s nighttime temperatures roll around it will get icy so many will wake up to icy conditions on Tuesday morning. After Monday’s mixed precipitation, Tuesday’s snow won’t have a chance to melt with a 30-degree F day and scattered flurries. And so it goes. Happy trails!

No matter the time of year there is always something to enjoy doing in the Haliburton Highlands but you knew that, right?
With a cool $200 prize for the first place male and female in the open category, Sir Sam’s Ski & Bike is hosting the first bordercross race of the season. Scroll down and click the 2nd image two times to enlarge to full size and read all about it!

If you are more the indoor, stay-warm type like me you may well enjoy the spirits and good company found at The Wild Moose Pub‘s Single Malt Social. Described as a ‘scotch nosing and dinner experience’ you will experience too, a different 1 oz. single malt whisky explained with each course. I hope they do something similar over the summer while I’m there as it sounds like a great evening! (Scroll above and click the image two times to enlarge to full size and read all about it!)

It looks to have been a perfectly lovely weekend in south-central Ontario Canada, especially for the snow-loving types. The temperatures coming up this week should please just about everyone as they are mild for January but still winter-like enough to keep the outdoor enthusiasts happy. Enjoy!

All extended or immediate McCrackan family at Maple Lake Ontario Canada - 1956. My parents are at extreme right.
The 1956 McCrackan family compound on Maple Lake. Our (current) cottage is not shown and don’t look for ‘these’ cottages as they don’t, technically, exist. In 1956 at McCrackan’s cottages there was no lake-bank to speak of and the trees looked really different than today–way more sparse.

Mom at Maple Lake Ontario - 'front' of the property - 1956. She was Mrs. Peggy (Jim) McCrackan by this time.
My mom took this Maple Lake summer photo of me, my dad in the middle, and my bro at right. in about 1969. I don’t think it was posed but I like the composition, if not the pukey look on my face.
Grabbed a couple webcam shots about 12 hours ago of some new-this-year scenic Ontario spots. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post more beautiful Ontario winter scenes more often! Also, Sir Sam’s Ski Resort in West Guilford looks to be ready and awaiting your arrival!
