<p>Welcome to the  second weekend of June, 2011. It is amazing how quickly time is passing by as we move into the summer months. The very active weather has been a distinct reminder that we are not quite into summertime yet, rather as we transition we  are getting, as Ontario knows only too well, some very strong reminders of when warm fronts meet cold.</p>
<p>So what kind of weather is in store for this week? In a word I&#8217;d say &#8216;calm.&#8217;  Though not exactly beach weather, for most of the week temperatures should be about 20-21°C with almost no precipitation at all. A bit of a break to give everything (and one) time to dry out.</p>
<div id="attachment_8427" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8427" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/06/11/haliburton-highlands-%e2%80%93-southern-ontario-weekend-long-term-weather-6-11-%e2%80%93-6-17-bug-report-photos/r1895l8/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8427" title="$R1895L8" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/R1895L8-425x244.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="244" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Weekend Weather June 10 - 11</p></div>
<p>If you happen to look up into the sky right now you&#8217;ll notice variable clouds. The temperature is chilly at 52°F. The 24-hour precipitation outlook is for 0.8 inches from Friday overnight through Saturday overnight.</p>
<p>Saturday morning should be mainly cloudy with temperatures rising to 55°F, though by Saturday afternoon rain moves in with a high of 61°F. Saturday evening you should expect scattered showers and a high of 57°F. Overnight on Saturday look for cloudiness with clear breaks and a temperature of 50°F.</p>
<div id="attachment_8428" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8428" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/06/11/haliburton-highlands-%e2%80%93-southern-ontario-weekend-long-term-weather-6-11-%e2%80%93-6-17-bug-report-photos/rsvcbtd/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8428" title="$RSVCBTD" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/RSVCBTD-425x215.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="215" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Long-Term Forecast</p></div>
<p>Sunday&#8217;s forecast calls for variable cloudiness with a high temperature of 61°F, and a low of 50°F overnight. There is no rain in the forecast.</p>
<p>Monday will be sunny with a high of 64°F and an overnight low of 48°F. There is again, no rain in the forecast.</p>
<p>Tuesday will be sunny with a very pleasant high of 72°F. Nighttime temperatures fall to 50°F and there is no rain in the forecast.</p>
<p>Wednesday, expect cloudy periods, a high temperature of 73°F and a low overnight of 54°F. You should not expect rain.</p>
<p>The forecast for Thursday is for sunny skies, a high temperature of 66°F and a warm-ish temperature overnight of 59°F.</p>
<p>The week closes out on Friday with isolated showers, a high of 68°F and a low overnight of 57°F. There may be up to 0.1 inches of precipitation accumulation on Friday.</p>
<p><strong>So, What About the Bugs?:</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<div id="attachment_8435" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><strong><strong><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8435" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/06/11/haliburton-highlands-%e2%80%93-southern-ontario-weekend-long-term-weather-6-11-%e2%80%93-6-17-bug-report-photos/r50m07o/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8435" title="$R50M07O" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/R50M07O-425x183.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="183" /></a></strong></strong><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Bug Report through June 15</p></div>
<p><strong> </strong>The bugs in cottage country right now are as we say, &#8216;thick.&#8221; What that means specifically is that the <strong>Black Flies </strong>will eat you up and the the <strong>Deer Flies</strong> will finish what&#8217;s left&#8211;UNLESS you wear long sleeved shirts, full-length pants and douse yourself in DEET. To state the obvious, the heavy rains have not helped the bug situation.</p>
<p>So all-in-all a good week for hiking, camping, biking, boating&#8211;whatever your pleasure. Just dress accordingly and you&#8217;ll have a grand time.</p>

<p>Since I never quite got to bed last night (long story) I was able to grab some awesome morning shots of southeastern Ontario at 9 a.m. Eastern (8 a.m. Central). And, since I&#8217;m just getting the weather-cast done now, I&#8217;ve grabbed a couple more shots of <em>sunsets</em> in beautiful southeastern Ontario, Canada. Something for everyone.</p>
<p><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="267" src="https://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf" flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&amp;hl=en_US&amp;feat=flashalbum&amp;RGB=0x000000&amp;feed=https%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2Ftheloveumakedotcom%2Falbumid%2F5614139704384474369%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26hl%3Den_US" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></p>
<p>I hear that Ontarians have had record rainfall in the month of May. I sympathize as though you might not expect it, weather here in the Chicago area is not too different. We&#8217;ve had the record rainy May, the zig-zagging temperatures, mostly on the cold side&#8211;but then excruciatingly hot and humid for a day or so as well. Just nutty.</p>
<p>So, what do we dare expect for this week? You may be pleasantly surprised!</p>
<p>First, in a big change, there will be<em> almost</em> no rainfall in southeastern Ontario for the next week. That is very welcome coming on the heels of such a wet May. Temperatures in general will be rather moderate with daytime highs about 21 or 22 °C during the day. Here are the details:</p>
<div id="attachment_8289" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8289" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/06/03/haliburton-highlands-%e2%80%93-southern-ontario-weekend-long-term-weather-6-3-6-10-bug-report-photos/shorttermjune3and4/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8289" title="shorttermjune3and4" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/shorttermjune3and4-425x249.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="249" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Weekend Weather June 3 - 4 2011</p></div>
<p>Expect variable cloudiness overnight on Friday with temperatures dipping down to 50°F. You could get up to 0.1 inches of rain from Friday evening through Saturday evening.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll wake on Saturday to isolated showers and a temperature of 57°F. Isolated showers continue through Saturday afternoon with a high of 70°F. Saturday evening will be cloudy with showers and a temperature of 66°F. Saturday&#8217;s overnight low will be 50°F.</p>
<div id="attachment_8296" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8296" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/06/03/haliburton-highlands-%e2%80%93-southern-ontario-weekend-long-term-weather-6-3-6-10-bug-report-photos/lonterm4thru9/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8296" title="lonterm4thru9" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/lonterm4thru9-425x212.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="212" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Long Term Forecast (F)</p></div>

<p>Sunday will have cloudy periods, a high of 73°F and an overnight low of 54°F. There is no precipitation forecast for Sunday.</p>
<p>Monday will again feature cloudy periods but with a high of 66°F, will be somewhat cooler. The overnight low of 54°F on Monday however, will mimic Sunday&#8217;s low. You could get close to 0.1 inch of rain.</p>
<p>Tuesday, June 7, expect cloudy periods, a high of 68°F and an overnight low of  54°F. There is no precipitation forecast for Tuesday.</p>
<p>Wednesday, June 8, isolated showers are again in the forecast. The high is expected to be 72°F and the overnight low, 50°F. You may get close to 0.1 inch of precipitation accumulation.</p>

<p>If you are like many folks in Ontario who get away from home to cottage country on the weekends (and beyond), you may not be waiting for May 24 to begin hauling up your boats to the many lakes and rivers in southeastern Ontario.</p>
<p>The summer season in Ontario though quite beautiful (amazing, breathtaking&#8211;take your pick of adjectives) is also quite short. So then, water enthusiasts whether they use watercraft or partake in the myriad other ways of soaking up the ambiance of cottage country, are quite ready to make the short journey there even if the weekend forecast looks like this weekend&#8217;s:</p>
<div id="attachment_8015" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8015" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/05/13/weekend-long-term-weather-bug-report-haliburton-highlands-southern-ontario-photos-5-13-11/shoortterm/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8015" title="shoortterm" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/shoortterm-425x254.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="254" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands weekend weather May 13-14</p></div>
<p>Not that we should &#8216;expect&#8217; balmy, rain-free days so early in the season but one can&#8217;t help but hope that <em>at least one day</em> of the weather shall be nice for recreational activities outdoors. Probably not happening this week as the rest of the week for the most part, is not looking super-duper, either.</p>
<p><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="267" src="https://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf" flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&amp;hl=en_US&amp;feat=flashalbum&amp;RGB=0x000000&amp;feed=https%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2Ftheloveumakedotcom%2Falbumid%2F5606327249120403713%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26authkey%3DGv1sRgCJfoqc2TwMj2mAE%26hl%3Den_US" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></p>
<p>I can see from the webcam shots that I just took that it is probably no exaggeration that in the next 24 hours you can expect upwards of an inch of rainfall. Fortunately, the temperature will remain mild overnight  Friday at a low of 57°F.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll wake up on Saturday to light rain with the temperature remaining steady at 57°F, before dropping to 54°F Saturday evening with more light rain and a low of 50°F.</p>
<div id="attachment_8022" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 435px"><a rel="nofollow" rel="attachment wp-att-8022" href="http://maplelakeontario.com/2011/05/13/weekend-long-term-weather-bug-report-haliburton-highlands-southern-ontario-photos-5-13-11/longterm14-19/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-8022" title="longterm14.19" src="http://maplelakeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/longterm14.19-425x228.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="228" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Haliburton Highlands Long Term Weather 5.14-5.19</p></div>
<p>Sunday, as promised, will be cloudy with showers and a high of just 54°F.  The low overnight will be 43°F and the rain accumulation will be 0.1 inch.</p>
<p>Monday, expect light rain and a chilly high of 48°F. The nighttime low will be 39° and the rain accumulation will again be 0.1 inch.</p>
<p>Tuesday, expect isolated showers, a high of 57 °F and an overnight low&#8211;again&#8211; of 39°. The rain accumulation will again be 0.1 inch.</p>
<p>Wednesday expect (what else?) light rain with high temperatures reaching 61° and overnight lows about 45°F.  There may be a half-inch or more rain accumulation.</p>
<p>Thursday, May 19, brings more scattered showers, a high of 61°F and an overnight low of 46°F.  The rain accumulation will again be 0.1 inch.</p>
<p>EDIT/ Also, there are the bugs:</p>
