Many of these fantastically fun events and activities are happening on Saturday June 16, so be sure to check the dates! For me, going to the Minden Truck Pull and the Buttertart contest in Haliburton would be a great start to what looks to be a super weekend. I’ll have more June activities posted later this weekend, so be sure to check back!
Have I mentioned that I’m a big fan of late spring, of summer and of early fall in the Haliburton Highlands? Full-on wintertime anywhere tends to be the time when I most wish to be elsewhere (Chicago area – right now- springs to mind). However, the people of the Haliburton Highlands area, who do indeed know what full-on winter feels like, never cease to impress me with the fun-for-everyone activities of all kinds that run year-round. There is nothing ‘dead’ about the ‘dead of winter in the Haliburton Highlands. Want to get just a taste of the great times in store when you spend time in the Haliburton area in February ? Read on!
DORSET WINTER CARNIVAL
Moose on Mountain Lake Feb 9 2012
When I see shots like this one, I want to immediately winterize the cottage and never leave!
Martinis and Manicures at the Wild Moose
I am so impressed with the creativity in the offerings that the folks at the Wild Moose display year-round. I enjoyed the Wild Moose with my spouse last summer and we can’t wait to go back!
When I was growing up, spending my summers on Maple Lake (nearest town: West Guilford) the village of Minden was akin to the younger sister of Haliburton. Nowadays, Haliburton is as bursting with activity as it ever has (and more!) but Minden seems to have really grown up. There are so many family-friendly events and activities going on in the Minden area, if you haven’t taken a closer look in recent years I invite you to begin doing so right now!

Haliburton Highlands Weekend & Long Term Weather February 4 – Feb. 9 2012
This week’s Haliburton Highland’s weather remains slightly warmer than normal with no snow at all before Thursday, February 9. The week’s temperatures will see-saw somewhat with variable clouds, cloudy periods, and cloudiness with sunny breaks all on the menu through Thursday.
Nighttime temperatures will be cold and well below freezing.
Minden CAR RACES ON ICE!!! this weekend!
Hey, don’t miss the Car Races on Ice at the Minden fairgrounds on February 4th and 5th where you can have a blast and support your community with proceeds going to stock up the local Food Bank. This is exactly where I’d be if I were to be in the Highlands this weekend. One day, once my cottage is outfitted, for it I will hit up this event!

Summer is almost over and it is time to look forward to the many fun fall events in the Haliburton Highlands. Among the most anticipated is the 2011 Colourfest in Haliburton Village. In a continuing quest to offer something for everyone year-round, Colourfest is but one very fun-for-all-ages activities to look forward to.
Besides the awesome performances, one of the Colourfest offerings that excites me most is the
OPP Golden Helmets. Put a uniform on a guy on a bike and ooh-la-la! –I’m entertained.
