The best summer of my life on Maple Lake Ontario

The Black-eyed Susans which we'd planted in late June had blossomed when we returned in late August.

The Black-eyed Susans which we’d planted in late June had blossomed when we returned in late August.

We’ve been home from Maple Lake Ontario (at our winter home, as I now call it) in Chicago for exactly a week today and I’m just transitioning into life here. It’s not a bad life–not at all–but it is not life on Maple Lake–not remotely.

I’ve pulled the last of the Maple Lake photos off my stand-alone camera and my phone camera so I’ll post some here now and spread the rest over the next nine months or so.

Our last five days at the cottage were far from perfect weather-wise.  It was seasonably cold, wet and windy. Nothing surprising though, and it didn’t really phase me after having a whole 6 weeks, including the entire month of July, at the Maple Lake. I felt a bit badly for Roger, though. We’ll plan his vacation days better next year, hopefully four straight weeks. We’d brought both dogs with us to Maple Lake so that ensured an inevitable degree of outside time, regardless of weather conditions.

We finished some inside the cottage mini-projects. Had a fine meal at Hali’s Bistro in Haliburton via an enthusiastic recommendation by my brother, who with his wife had stayed for a full week at the cottage prior to our arrival. Since we were closing for the year we began packing up 2 days before we were to leave. When you have to be inside, it is almost better if the weather is not-so-good outside (almost).
