Spending All of July on Maple Lake For the First Time Since I Was a Kid

Maple Lake Ontario--July 24 2013

Maple Lake Ontario–July 24 2013

Woke to a chilly morning which contrasted sharply with about a week’s worth of mornings earlier this month. By late afternoon however, the insistence of  a predominately sunny day warmed us within and without. The presence too of extended family, my own and that of my cousin’s, made the day yet another that reminds me of why I love it here so much. The setting is conducive to comradery and easy conversation.

Roger, my cousin-in-law and his sibling rebuilt the landing to the 2nd beach here. It had been torn apart by the unusually harsh winter conditions. I have no talent whatsoever for such things, so had a lovely conversation with my cousin’s in-laws, who were lakeside observing, as the trio got the job done in just about an hour. It’s neat when people just come together and make something cool that everyone enjoys doing so ‘just because’.

Accu-weather says it’ll be another cool morning  today but a lovely day overall. I plan to make use of the swim raft and crack open  Martin’s A Feast For Kings, which I finally broke down and bought after not finishing it twice after taking out from the library back home. It’s always on a wait list and I just want to get the darned thing finished.

Obi in the cottage. He loves lake living --the swimming, the chipmunk chasing--having loads of room to walk off-leash--plus a steady stream of doggy visitors to play with!

Ooh, almost forgot. We’ve been sampling local baker’s buttertarts for me to bring to a gathering in Toronto this weekend. I think we’ve settled on The Country Bakery in Carnarvon. The pecan buttertarts are excellent and the blueberry scones delish as well.
