Update!  Halliburton July DUSK DANCES  Saturday REGISTRATION DEADLINE:

Dusk Dances DEADLINE Saturday May 26!

Dusk Dances DEADLINE Saturday May 26!

Burley Falls Stoney Lake Ontario May 25 sunset

Thunderstorms were in the forecast today so my sunset photo caps are a bit dark-looking, though still pretty, I think. Some areas of southeastern Ontario had more sunshine than others, too (so better shots). Have a closer look by scrolling down and clicking the thumbnails. Ontario is so beautiful and I’m packing to spend about 10 days there as I write this!

Roger and I are opening the cottage for the summer, a summer that I am so looking forward to.

This weekend’s weather looks just great:

Local Weather Forecast 14- Day Maple Lake Ontario:

Maple Lake Ontario forecast May 26 - June 8 (14-day forecast)

It gets a wee bit frosty around the first of June but otherwise I have no real complaints about the weather projection for the next 14 days for the Haliburton Highlands around Maple Lake. And besides even if I did, would it matter? lol.

If you have not walked the Haliburton Forest you have not seen all of Haliburton by far. One of my favourite things to do when I’m  in the Highlands.

'Downtown' Haliburton Ontario Canada - Friday May 18 2012

Happy VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND –and beyond!

It’s official. Summer is here. The calendar even says so.

There is a whole lot going on in the Haliburton Highlands including activities in the farther away reaches of the Highlands that I’ve yet to but plan to explore.

‘Buskers are welcome’

Eclectic Country Market in downtown Wilberforce - open weekends between 9-1 Saturdays and 10-2 p.m. Sundays - Victoria Day through Labour Day.

Haliburton Highlands May 19 - June 1 Weather Outlook

I’m so exited that we’ll be at the cottage for part of this time period. I’m really okay with the slightly higher temperatures as it would be nice if the lake warmed up sooner than later.

This sounds important.

This is where I’d be and what I’d do this Sunday night in the Haliburton Highlands:

Where: The Wild Moose

Who: Ron Hynes

When: Sunday, May 12 at the Wild Moose in Haliburton. It’s Mother’s Day in the U.S.–Canada too, right? So take your mum out Sunday night for some dinner and entertainment. It’ll be a fun time!

Ron Hynes

Looks fun!

I’ve done “Festival’ and other group singing. It’s fun. And this  show would be fun to check out, I think! At a nice venue too–the Northern Lights Pavilion.

Maple Lake - A new day dawns (mid -late 1990's)

MAPLE LAKE 1993 - Roger and Chris

Being born in late August had its benefits for my youngest son in that by the following summer Chris was old enough to enjoy Maple Lake. Here he sits with his dad in the late evening twilight, all ready for bed.

This year–2012–is his 20th year. He’s putting himself through school and won’t be spending time on Maple Lake this summer, maybe not for some summers to come. Regardless, when he’s ready to come back it will be awaiting.

Maple Lake - Peggy, Jim and grandson Chris 1996

This was an eventful summer–the summer that changed everything–but in this moment all seemed right.
