Thunderstorms were in the forecast today so my sunset photo caps are a bit dark-looking, though still pretty, I think. Some areas of southeastern Ontario had more sunshine than others, too (so better shots). Have a closer look by scrolling down and clicking the thumbnails. Ontario is so beautiful and I’m packing to spend about 10 days there as I write this!

Roger and I are opening the cottage for the summer, a summer that I am so looking forward to.

It gets a wee bit frosty around the first of June but otherwise I have no real complaints about the weather projection for the next 14 days for the Haliburton Highlands around Maple Lake. And besides even if I did, would it matter? lol.

If you have not walked the Haliburton Forest you have not seen all of Haliburton by far. One of my favourite things to do when I’m  in the Highlands.

Happy VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND –and beyond!

It’s official. Summer is here. The calendar even says so.

There is a whole lot going on in the Haliburton Highlands including activities in the farther away reaches of the Highlands that I’ve yet to but plan to explore.

I’m so exited that we’ll be at the cottage for part of this time period. I’m really okay with the slightly higher temperatures as it would be nice if the lake warmed up sooner than later.

This sounds important.

Maple Lake - A new day dawns (mid -late 1990's)

MAPLE LAKE 1993 - Roger and Chris

Being born in late August had its benefits for my youngest son in that by the following summer Chris was old enough to enjoy Maple Lake. Here he sits with his dad in the late evening twilight, all ready for bed.

This year–2012–is his 20th year. He’s putting himself through school and won’t be spending time on Maple Lake this summer, maybe not for some summers to come. Regardless, when he’s ready to come back it will be awaiting.
