Update 4.23.11: The Weekend Weather & Long-Term weather are now up. Happy weekend!:

Rainbow Bridge, Canada- U.S. border ONT/NY
It’s not even 3:30 p.m. in this shot of the Rainbow Bridge, connecting the United States with Canada. Holiday traffic? Maybe.
I crossed here bunches of times over the 12 years I resided in Connecticut and visited my family in Canada. It is quite scenic with the surrounding geography, especially compared to the Detroit-Windsor crossing–ugh.
Whole lot of melting goin’ on–in many but not all, places in southern Ontario. It’s a big place geographically with incredibly gorgeous & diverse hill formations and plentiful lakes. They’re getting a real range of weather during this ‘changing of the guard’ in going from winter to true spring. Summer is a short season in these parts–all the more beautiful and worthy of enjoying.

Haliburton Highlands Weekend Weather April 23-24. 2011
Between Saturday morning and Sunday morning there is nothing really to be thrilled bout in the great outdoors, IMO. ‘ Light rain, Cloudy w/showers, Isolated showers.’–all ways of saying when combined with the yuck temperatures–Bleh. Need nice weather Soon! Maybe another month, right?
In addition to the rain there will be some cloudy periods overnight Saturday.
The 24-hour precipitation outlook: 5-10mm of rain from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.

Gilmour Ontario 4.15.11
If there’s one word to describe what much of southeastern Ontario is experiencing weather-wise, I would choose “wet.” Be it snow, rain or a mix of the two, there is precipitation in your near future in SoONTCA on a fairly consistent basis. Adding to the ‘wet’ is the ‘melt’. I’m including a shot of Gilmour, Ontario, where the melt is quite obvious, but the same stands true for much of the region.

Today would have been my mother’s 84th birthday. She passed away on January 12 of this year:

Mom at Ocean World late 1970's
Peggy didn’t make a big deal out of her birthday–but she did other people’s. On April 9th she’d acknowledge that yes, it was her birthday but also her niece Patti as well as (now my memory fails me) deceased dear friend from childhood. It was their birthday, too. She was really, really good at remembering birthdays and anniversaries and such.
I’ve been sifting through the mountainous pile of photographs in my mother’s collection trying to cull the most suitable for her remembrance service at Maple Lake this August 25.* Most of them are from a time before I was born so though they are indeed photos of Peggy, they are not pics of the woman I knew as ‘Mom.’ This one is however very much how I remember my mother.
Notice the camera on her wrist? Ubiquitous when we went somewhere.
*Tentatively–still need to firm it up

Every year the Haliburton Highlands Celebrates Earth Day in awesome, fun, & educational ways and this year is no different:
Here’s more details about one way you can spend your Earth Day 2011:

'Save Our Planet Earth'

This year is the 41st anniversary of Earth Day, a day to celebrate and honour our home–while educating ourselves and others how we can better care for Earth.
In day-to-day living, though we sometimes may feel bombarded with ‘save the Earth’ messages these messages can be especially powerful when applied to our immediate surroundings. Positivity is a large part of the Earth Day Family Festival with topics and activities that sound very worthy of yours and my time: hearing The Good News Earth Report (yes folks, there is good news!) and Our County’s Species at Risk as well as the Eco-kids Quiz and Gaia’s Story “What Is Magnificent’ are some of the ways you can participate and enjoy Earth Day 2011!

Previously: Welcome to your weekend, folks, I’m afraid mine started not-so-great with a case a of food poisoning. Please check back at about 12 midnight or anytime after. Thanks! Cyn
