24-Hour Weather Forecast - Haliburton Highlands - November 28, 2010

I read on Twitter yesterday that Haliburton got a foot of snow overnight on Friday. No snow was in the forecast for Saturday night but by Sunday, November 28, look for about another half-inch of the white stuff.

Temperatures on Sunday look to heat up a bit more than the snow-lovers like. Sunday’s high temperature should be about 37°F with scattered flurries. The low overnight on Sunday should be 24°F.

Monday through Friday’s Long Term Weather Forecast follows: (Click it a couple times for full-size)

The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger: Get Off the Grid But Stay In Touch!

Ξ November 9th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Accessories, tracking, Trails, Travel/Vacation |

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of SPOT. All opinions are 100% mine.

I'm the kind of person that doesn't even like to venture out in the the wilds of the suburban jungle without a way to communicate with civilization as I've grown accustomed to being able to reach people using my smartphone when I need to–and them me, no matter where we are.

As much as a trip out into the true wild sounds appealing and that most people do so without serious incident, I feel strongly that you flirt with danger unnecessarily without being adequately prepared to communicate with the "outside world," a/k/a civilization, if you need to.

As even the most avid outdoors people will acknowledge, anyone can find themselves in trouble in the great outdoors–and it can happen very quickly–even with the best laid plans. Let's face it, part of the reason outdoor adventurers love what they do is the adventure that comes with unpredictability of getting away from it all.

Gift-giving season will soon be upon us bringing the perfect opportunity to meet halfway with the outdoor adventurer in your family who likes to go as they say, "off the grid."

You can now let them have their outdoor adventure and you can keep your sanity too, knowing that if your camping, hiking, all-'round outdoor adventurer should need to do so they'll have access to a vital line of communication with friends and family–when they want it– or a link to emergency assistance when they need it.

The SPOT Satellite GPS messenger uses 100% satellite technology and works almost anywhere in the world–and this is a key point–even where cell phones don’t–and it does so with the simple push of a button.

Right now, for the holiday season, if you buy the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger you receive a very cool 'bonus' adventure kit valued at $50. The adventure kit includes a coupon for 15% off Basic Service, a flotation case for SPOT, a micro LED flashlight, safety tips bandanna with very good outdoor tips –very practical! You also get a lanyard for your SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger, a safety whistle and a carabineer key chain!

They say that you can't buy peace of mind. I have to disagree that with the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger, you can buy the peace of mind of knowing that your adventurous loved one can get as wild as they want to be while still being just a touch away from communicating with you back in the cozy confines of the suburban jungle.

The Weather Network’s short and long range weather charts follow.

[smooth=id:75;]

What I do have is some awesome-looking photos of southern Ontario today 11.05.1withininminutes and in some cases at dawn (you know, that time just after sunset when the lights are about to fully go out–then electric ones on (heh).

Anyway. I have some almost painting-looking shots from Gilmour. Again, I must the give a thumbs up to the Gilmour webmaster for having such a great eye for things a webcam photo-enthusiast would enjoy. Great webcam stills even on an iffy weather day. A place or two in southern  Ontario looks clear but mostly grey and wet dusk-time web-camera shots from a Ontario. for 11.05.10.

Short Term Forecast Haliburton Highlands, Ontario 11.05-11.06.10

Short Term Forecast Haliburton Highlands, Ontario 11.05-11.06.10

Tomorrow, Saturday Nov. 6, looks to be the coldest day of the entire week with a daytime high of 36°F and sunny.

Overnight Saturday you’ll have cloudy with clear breaks and a low of 18°F.

Long term it looks like a sunny, moderate week–even nighttime temps are above freezing through the majority of the week. There is no rain or snow in the forecast until a chance next Friday of  0.1 inch.

So to sum up this coming week looks dry & sunny, with moderate temperatures in the mid-forties daytime and above freezing most overnights, most all of next week. Enjoy!

From Abstract to Landscape – Retrospective on John Lennard
November 1-20 2010

'Hilltop' by John Lennard

'Hilltop' by Canadian artist John Lennard

The paintings, primarily oil paint on canvas, reflect a direct response to nature, a consciousness of the environment and an awareness of the dangers posed to the natural world. They intensify the subject and follow the seasons with a strong, rich treatment. The works reflect a deep-seated love of nature and evoke the remembered sensations of season, place and time.” (Please click this link for more of John Lennard‘s work.)

In this exhibition John Lennard’s life as an artist since 1964 will be realized. Works from his years at the Ontario College of Arts, Toronto and Student League, New York to his struggling years living in New York, where a number of significant influences occurred and a range of styles were tried, to his poignant discovery of landscape upon his return to central Ontario will be included. This exhibition will be on display from September 15 – November 20.
