Snow Squall Warning : Haliburton – Minden – Southern Haliburton County Issued at 12:57 AM EST Saturday 12 December 2009
The Weather Network
..Major snow squalls continuing into the morning then dissipating.. Strong and cold westerly winds are producing Major snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Zero visibilities in whiteout conditions from bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow are associated. Snow squalls are expected to be particularly severe and persistent from Manitoulin Island across Georgian Bay. Further local accumulations of up to 30 centimetres of snow are possible tonight in the heaviest bands east of Georgian Bay.
A very strong and cold westerly flow will continue to generate intense snow squalls extending well inland from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Dangerous whiteout conditions from blowing snow and very heavy snow will continue in the strongest snowsqualls especially early this morning. The strongest and most persistent snow squall band is extending across Georgian Bay to just north of Parry Sound and moving southward. This band may affect highways in the vicinity of Parry Sound where additional accumulations of 20 to 30 centimetres are possible this morning. This is in addition to the significant snowfall and drifting snow in the regions in some locations 50 to 100 centimetres causing historically extreme total accumulations for this snow squall event. Environment Canada will continue to monitor this developing situation closely. Further warnings may be issued as warranted.
