I must say I’m running into the same roadblocks that I did last summer in getting some good snaps of Maple Lake–it is just so rainy and windy–at least in the afternoons and early evening-to-sunset when I’d like to take photographs. We would have had a few more to share but both spouse and I are using the new camera and we are not quite adept yet at making sure the settings have not been fudged with.Taking snaps of loons on the “portrait” setting just does not get a good result. Here are a few photos just the same. We went to the Haliburton campus of Fleming College for the Arts and toured the Sculpture Forest which is adjacent to it. It was the nicest day that we’ve had thus far weather-wise. We each had fun and spouse, who took pictures on our older camera, really got some nice shots. He’s not cooperating however with sorting through them and believe me, going through 1oo’s of snaps like I’ve just done isn’t the fun part of photo-taking. Cheers! Cyn
It was a gorgeous day here at Maple Lake and beyond as we ventured into the Sculpture Forest in nearby Haliburton.
Photos to come tomorrow.
It was such a welcome respite from the soggy days and chilly nights as well as the inverse, it might put one into an optimistic frame of mind that more good weather is in store for the weekend. That would be a wrong assumption, I regret to inform you.
Tonight (Friday) will be COLD. Forty-two degrees for a nighttime low tonight, August 7. Tomorrow will start off chilly but dry…until the rain comes into play starting in the afternoon. At below 70F, the temperatures are not going to be very impressive, either.

Sunday, August 9th is set to improve as far as the temperatures warming to upper seventies. Expect thunderstorms for the entire day, however. Sorry. Nighttime lows will be about 62 F.
The upside is if you don’thave to head home on Monday you’ll enjoy a sunny day near 80 F with nighttime lows in the mid 60′s F.

Long-term weather forecast
Tuesday looks “iffy” with a chance of thundershowers and a high of 71 F. Evening lows on Tuesday should be about 60 F. Wednesday, things again look lovely. Expect sunny skies and highs in the mid-70′s F.
Thursday is predicted to be much like Wednesday with tempertures nearing 80F and overnight lows for both Wednesday and Thursday about 55F.
On Friday expect mainly sunny skies with a high of 78F and an evening low of 55F.
In terms of bugs, I’d describe them as moderate overall. I don’t think the chilly weather agrees with them. The bug report follows.
Have a great week!

“The sun will come out to-morrow..”

Maple Lake Cottage
–my son hummed this whilst we went for a very quick swim today–one I’d promised myself “no matter what.”
The sun made a couple of brief appearances today. I had “issues” with a bot trying to crash–well he “did” actually crash one of my sites that I do paid work on so I had lots of interesting discussions with my hosting company. I am putting it behind me and looking forward heading to the Haliburton Sculpture Forest on Friday. It’s not even going to reach 70 F but it’s supposed to be clear and sounds like a potentially perfect day for a walk in the woods checking out public art. Will report back with photos!
Cheers!

Stormy Weather
The weather here gave us a brief respite yesterday so we took advantage of it as you can see in the photos.
The fire we made was neato and we roasted marshmallows. Downside was finding that I’d been thoroughly bitten from hairline and on my scalp. Ick.
Supposedly, it shall turn HOT in a few days which seems sort of hard to fathom given that the temperatures are struggling to reach 70F. We’ll be here so we shall see. Fingers crossed.
The weather here is still not great. T-Storms on the horizon for Tuesday, after that it is hit or miss but still really on the chilly side.
Drove top down to Karwartha Dairy tonight. Lines were almost non-existent due to the weather and the civic holiday weekend ending. It was still nice enough to grab a picnic table and for me to enjoy a new-this-year flavour–Buttertart (something). Totally yummy . It’s amazing how fresh the ice cream is and how perfect the bits of crust in the ice cream were. Best prices too–here or stateside.
Came back to the cottage and decided to watch the last two episodes of the BBC show “Ashes to Ashes.” It ended on a question mark and I’m glad that it’s been renewed for a 3rd season. Though I miss about one-quarter of the dialogue due to the 1. heavy accents and 2. 1980′s-era slang there’s still enough that is understandable to make it good for a few laughs.
Since outside pics are hard to come by here are a few of the guys lounging plus one of the 08.02.09 waxing moon.
